call for submissions

Eden Theater Company Play Lab works with emerging New York City (or its vicinity) playwrights to develop a new play with ETC artists. The playwright collaborates with Eden’s artistic collective, to hone the structure, characters, and arcs of a new play they will write during their residency. We hope that the new work developed provides a critical but empathetic vantage into different experiences and states of being.

We are calling for New York City (or in its vicinity) playwrights to apply for the ETC Play Lab Residency. We are especially seeking those writers who feel their voice is marginalized, by their age, gender, race, ethnicity, or beliefs.

This year-long in-person collaboration will meet bi-monthly over eight to nine months to create a new play. The Play Lab is not for work already produced or written. All work will be generated out of the workshop. This collaboration will culminate in a staged development workshop of the playwright’s work created and developed in the lab. All participants must be able to meet in person in New York City throughout the lab and attend all bi-monthly Lab sessions. ETC hopes to cultivate a long-standing relationship between the playwright and the Eden Theater Company.
